Jazz weekend in June on the Ölberg and in Le Pirate – “Music for alert ears"
The Jazzfest Rosenheim positions itself in the Upper Bavarian festival landscape as a counter-design to large open-air spectacles. The motto “Music for alert ears, little spectacle, much musical brilliance, no party music" is the program. Organized by the cultural association Le Pirate, which runs the jazz and cultural venue of the same name in Rosenheim's old town, the festival is aimed at attentive listeners and regular visitors to the local jazz scene.
The main stage is set up open air on the Ölberg, the square in front of St. Nikolaus church on Ludwigsplatz in the middle of Rosenheim's city center. In bad weather, the festival moves to the neighboring Le Pirate, which also serves as the second venue for late concerts and after-show sessions during the festival week. Further concerts take place in the Ballhaus Rosenheim, in the church of St. Nikolaus, and in the Salzstadel.
The festival presents a broad spectrum within jazz: from modern jazz quartets and funk and soul ensembles to gospel, blues, and more experimental projects. Young German jazz ensembles perform alongside established international guests. The curatorial line emphasizes quality over show format – “little spectacle, much musical brilliance".
A special feature is the largely free admission to the open-air concerts on the Ölberg. Only individual concerts in indoor venues (St. Nikolaus, Ballhaus, Salzstadel) require tickets, with prices ranging from around 24 to 38 Euros. This makes the Jazzfest Rosenheim one of the most accessible jazz festivals in Upper Bavaria.
Rosenheim is the largest town in the Inn Valley between Munich and Lake Chiemsee. The Jazzfest provides a cultural counterpoint to Upper Bavaria's dense calendar of folk festivals and traditions and is accessible from Munich in 50 minutes via the A8 motorway (Munich–Salzburg) and by public transport (train).
The Jazzfest Rosenheim 2026 will take place on June 19 and 20. The main venue will be the open-air stages on the Ölberg in front of St. Nikolaus church in the heart of Rosenheim's city center. Two bands will perform each evening, with the program starting in the early evening. In case of bad weather, the concerts will move to Le Pirate.
The 2026 lineup combines young voices with established jazz ensembles. Featured artists include Severin Rauchs Leg Transporter, Titilayo Frei, the Moritz Weiß Trio, Yellow Fleet, and the Jesse Davis Quartett. Admission to the open-air concerts is free; only select concerts in indoor venues like St. Nikolaus church or the Salzstadel will cost between €24 and €38.
