22 Years of Family Festival in Stuttgart's City Center
For over two decades, the Children's and Family Festival has been a fixture in Stuttgart's event calendar on the second weekend in June. The 22nd edition will take place on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM each day, occupying the entire area between Schlossplatz, Königstraße, and Eckensee. The organizer is Sportkreis Stuttgart e.V., which, together with the City-Initiative Stuttgart and over a hundred sports and social clubs, puts together a two-day program.
Action Stands and Stage
The festival's concept rests on two pillars: the interactive "Action Stands" of the participating clubs and the stage program. At the Action Stands, children can try out sports – from archery to climbing, table tennis, acrobatics, and gymnastics. The clubs present their disciplines and often offer a taster session. On the main stage at Schlossplatz, sports groups present their choreographies: dance, martial arts, trampolining, rhythmic gymnastics, cheerleading. Member clubs of Sportkreis receive expense allowances – EUR 100 per stand, EUR 50 per stage performance – which have kept participation consistently high in the past.
Königstraße as an Experience Axis
The extent of the festival is unusual: while other family festivals concentrate on one square, the Children's and Family Festival stretches along Königstraße – Stuttgart's central shopping street – to the Schlossgarten and Eckensee. It thus connects the city center axis with the urban greenery and encourages movement in all directions. Visitors often use the festival as an introduction to a day in the city center, followed by a walk through the Schlosspark or a visit to the Staatsgalerie.
Creative Hands-on Stations
In addition to sports, creative stations form the second pillar of the festival: painting studios, craft stands, recycling workshops, board and strategy games, reading corners from the city library, science stations with microscopes and simple experiments. Local theaters offer short performances for the little ones, and music schools provide instruments to try out. Food trucks and food stalls provide families with healthy snacks, ice cream, and Swabian specialties.
Free Admission — Sports for All
The festival has been freely accessible since its first edition in 2005. This low-threshold approach is part of the program: Sportkreis Stuttgart aims to bring movement to all Stuttgart families, regardless of income. The festival offers a platform for clubs to introduce themselves and attract new members. For families, it is the perfect weekend to get to know the diversity of Stuttgart's sports and cultural life all at once – while enjoying the beautiful Schlossplatz backdrop.
