Club festival by the lake with fish specialties, brass music, and electronic sounds
Benningen am Neckar is a municipality in the Ludwigsburg district with around 6,200 inhabitants, located directly on the Neckar river between Marbach and Ludwigsburg. The local angling club is one of the most active clubs in the area and operates the "Haus am See" (House on the Lake), a clubhouse directly on the Benningen lake. The annual Fischerfest is the biggest public club event of the year — and for the approximately 1,500 visitors, it's the central summer date in the municipality.
The culinary highlight is clear: fresh fish, grilled locally, prepared by the club members themselves. The menu typically includes grilled mackerel, spit-roasted pike fillet, trout, fish burger in a bun, and fish soup. Alongside these, the usual festival fare — bratwurst, fries, salads, homemade cake. The beer selection features regional breweries from the Ludwigsburg district. Food is sold at fair club prices, with proceeds going towards the maintenance of the clubhouse and the lake facilities.
The musical concept is a special feature of the festival: during the day, there's brass music from the music clubs of Benningen and neighboring municipalities — classic German club festival repertoire. As dusk falls, local DJs and sometimes small live acts take over with electronic sets. This creates a transition from a family-friendly afternoon to a younger evening audience — a concept that positions the festival between generations and sets it apart from classically organized Volksfests.
The festival's real asset is its location: the Haus am See is situated directly on the Benningen lake, a former gravel quarry that now serves as a local recreation area. Trees frame the festival grounds, the water is visible, and in the late afternoon, beautiful light moods often emerge. A club festival with a festival atmosphere — not an over-commercialized open-air event, but a genuine local gathering, organized by people who live, fish, and know each other in Benningen.
The annual Fischerfest in Benningen am Neckar — also known as the "Haus am See Festival" — will take place in 2026 on Saturday, September 5, at the lake. The organizer is the Benningen Angling Club, supported by other local clubs in the municipality.
Around 1,500 visitors are expected. Culinary focus: grilled mackerel, spit-roasted pike fillet, trout, fish burger in a bun, plus bratwurst, fries, homemade cake. Musically, a crossover of brass music from local music clubs (afternoon) and electronic DJ sets (evening) — a club festival that deliberately bridges generations.
