Two-day Volksfest and Schützenfest of the Kirchgellersen Volunteer Rifle Corps and surrounding area
The Kirchgellersen Volunteer Rifle Corps and surrounding area is one of the active rifle corps in the Gellersen municipality. Unlike civilian rifle guilds, which derive from citizen militias, many rifle corps originate from voluntary citizen associations responsible for security and order in the village in the 19th century. Today, the corps cultivates sport shooting with small-bore and air rifles, as well as social club life. The Volks- und Schützenfest is the social highlight of the club's year.
The festival Saturday begins at 12 p.m. with the opening. This is followed by a welcome and opening ceremony in the rifle house. Between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., the shooting competitions take place – King's Shoot, Cup Shoot, and other classifications. At 6 p.m., the new rifle kings and queens are proclaimed and honored with sashes and chains. The evening concludes with a ceremonial act and dancing in the festival tent. The festival Sunday begins at 11 a.m. with a welcome to guests, followed by the festive parade at 1:30 p.m. through the streets of Kirchgellersen. Between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., further shooting competitions and a buffet take place.
For years, the Kirchgellersen Rifle Corps has placed great importance on a family-friendly festival concept. Free attractions for children are available on the festival grounds – for example, a bungee trampoline with four stations, a bouncy castle, and small play stations. This consistently opens the festival to families from the entire village and the neighboring communities of Reppenstedt, Westergellersen, and Südergellersen. Food and drinks are served at typical folk festival prices, and the festival tent offers seating for all generations.
Kirchgellersen is located west of Lüneburg and belongs to the Gellersen municipality, which comprises the communities of Reppenstedt, Westergellersen, Südergellersen, and Kirchgellersen. The village with its distinctive rifle house and active club life maintains its own identity – the annual rifle festival is an important anchor of social life.
The schedule has been established for Kirchgellersen's rifle festivals for a long time. Saturday focuses on the King's Shoot, the King Proclamation, and the evening dance. Sunday features the festive parade, the King's Feast, further shooting competitions, and the family program. This daily structure allows both club members and guests to specifically choose the program points that interest them most.
The schedule follows previous years and will be finalized by the corps a few weeks before the festival:
