Five open-air concerts in the museum park in front of the paddle steamer RIESA — June to August 2026
There are few places in Brandenburg where you can start your Sunday more relaxed than in the museum park of the Oderberg Inland Navigation Museum. Directly by the old harbor, with a view of the paddle steamer RIESA, which is displayed there as a showpiece, the museum's support association will present a program on five Sunday mornings starting in mid-June, deliberately focusing on the quiet Frühschoppen tradition: coffee, rolls, perhaps a first beer, accompanied by live music from the genres of Jazz, Swing, Blues, and Oldies. Free admission.
The selection for 2026 is deliberately broad: The Dixie Brothers will kick things off on June 7 with classic Dixieland jazz, which will make the sun shine with clarinet, trumpet, banjo, and sousaphone. On June 28, Checkpoint Light will play music from the 1950s and 60s — Rock 'n' Roll, Twist, early Beat songs. On July 19, the P&F Blues Company will bring classic Chicago and Texas blues to the Oder, with great love for Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. On August 9, Old Brand will be on stage — Oldie rock from several decades, with cover versions that get the audience singing along. The finale on August 30 will be The Music Blend with a mix of Swing, Pop, and Jazz for all ages.
The RIESA, built in Hamburg in 1897 and in service on the Elbe and Oder for over 90 years, now lies as a technical monument directly by the museum park and is part of the exhibition of the Inland Navigation Museum. Those sitting at the Frühschoppen will have it as a background backdrop — a piece of shipping history from the time when the Oder was still the most important transport route between Berlin and Stettin. Before and after the concert, a visit to the museum exhibition in the historic Stadtwirtshaus is worthwhile.
Oderberg, with a good 2,000 inhabitants, is one of the smaller towns on the western edge of the Uckermark in the Barnim district, and it has an extraordinary location: directly on the old course of the Oder, squeezed between a ridge and the river. The historic old town with its market square and town church is worth a stroll after the Frühschoppen, and the nearby Pimpinellenberg nature reserve with its dry grasslands is a hiking destination for botany enthusiasts. Together with the Niederfinow Ship Lift (only 10 km away), Oderberg forms one of Brandenburg's most exciting excursion regions.
The Jazz Frühschoppen series is not a mega-festival, but a lovingly organized club event with a family atmosphere. Those who come should best bring a folding chair (seating is limited), a bit of change for the donation box, and good cheer. It's a wonderful opportunity to get to know Oderberg as a relaxed summer destination and experience live music outdoors — far from the hectic big festivals.
The Jazz Frühschoppen series is spread over five Sunday mornings between June 7 and August 30, 2026. Each concert lasts from 11 AM to 2 PM — the ideal length for a relaxed start to the Sunday, with brunch, beer, sunshine, and live music.
The organizer is the Friends of the Oderberg Inland Navigation Museum, which culturally enlivens the museum and the town of Oderberg during the summer months with the series.
