Self-governed summer festival on Amelie-Beese-Straße in Bremen-Neustadt
If you turn your back on Bremen Airport and head towards the OHB space center, you'll encounter an unusual part of the city: the grounds on Amelie-Beese-Straße in Bremen-Neustadt. On about 5,000 square meters, the activists of the association Kulturbeutel e.V. have turned a wasteland into a space of cultural possibilities since 2017 – the Irgendwo-Festival. Politicians have long spoken of a "cultural beacon for the entire city".
The concept is as simple as it is radical: a non-profit association uses a space for the entire warm season. What started as small events has become a five-month program that attracts thousands of guests annually. Around 10 permanent staff and about 100 volunteers support the project. The four major seasonal parties secure the financing for the many smaller, often free, offerings – a Hanseatic-solidary economic model.
Concerts and DJ sets take place on two stages, alongside open-air cinema, readings, theater, workshops for beginners and advanced participants, yoga sessions, and a relaxed bar area. In 2026, the new "Kulturspielplatz" (Culture Playground) will expand the offerings to include family days, opening the grounds to parents with children. A highlight is the monthly big party night – and in 2026, for the first time, a continuous 24-hour party.
The association's manifesto states: "We want to be a space for everything that excites people." Admission prices remain deliberately low, and the grounds are open to all Bremen residents, regardless of their life situation. In this way, the Irgendwo-Festival contributes to modern, civic urban development in the south of Bremen.
The 2026 season holds several premieres for regulars and newcomers alike. For the first time, a continuous 24-hour party will take place on May 23rd starting at 9:30 PM – a format that is unparalleled in Bremen so far. The new "Kulturspielplatz" on May 17th, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, opens the grounds for families with children and complements the program, which has previously been more night-oriented.
Throughout the season, there will be monthly big parties, DJ and yoga workshops for beginners and advanced participants, bar evenings, and weekly small events. The Sea-Punks charity gala on May 30th supports the Sea Punks organization, which performs sea rescue in the Mediterranean.
