Chamber Music on Lake Tegern
The International Music Festival on Lake Tegern (also known as the International Music Festival Kreuth on Lake Tegern) is the musical highlight of the year in the Tegernsee-Schliersee Alpine region. For a good two weeks in July, it brings world-class chamber music to an extraordinary setting: primarily the barn (Tenne) at Gut Kaltenbrunn in Gmund am Tegernsee, a historic estate right on the lake.
The Barn as a Concert Hall
The special feature is the ambiance: the barn (Tenne) – a converted stable on the estate – combines Bavarian down-to-earthness with first-class acoustics and atmosphere. In addition, there are other venues in the region, including the Baroque Church of St. Quirin in Tegernsee and the Waitzinger Keller Cultural Centre in Miesbach.
Internationally Renowned Artists
The festival attracts top performers: pianists such as Jan Lisiecki, Lukas Sternath, or the brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen; chamber music ensembles like the Notos Quartet or the Trio Moreau; violinist Julia Fischer; as well as tango ensembles and jazz big bands. The repertoire ranges from Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms to Debussy, Ravel, Tango, and Jazz.
Opening, Main Concerts, Epilogue
The 2026 festival will be opened by a special concert of the Regensburg Cathedral Choir (Regensburger Domspatzen). The main concert series takes place in the barn at Gut Kaltenbrunn. The festive epilogue will be a concert with Cecilia Bartoli (mezzo-soprano) and David Fray (piano) at the Waitzinger Keller in Miesbach.
