2.2 km beer garden between Strausberger Platz and Frankfurter Tor – over 300 breweries from 85 countries, August 7–9, 2026, free admission
Every year, the International Berlin Beer Festival takes over the 2.2-kilometer-long Karl-Marx-Allee between Strausberger Platz and Frankfurter Tor for three days – one of Berlin's most monumental avenues, lined with the GDR Stalinist buildings of the 1950s. This makes the festival not only one of the largest beer festivals worldwide but also one with the most unusual backdrop: brewery stands beneath sandstone facades, beer benches in front of buildings that once served to demonstrate socialist representative architecture.
At around 340 stands, over 300 breweries from 85 countries present their beers. Represented are the major Berlin and German breweries (Berliner Bürgerbräu, Lemke, Schultheiss, Berliner Pilsner) as well as specialties from the Czech Republic, Belgium, Great Britain, the USA, Japan, and Latin America. A total of around 2,400 types of beer are served – from classic Pils and Weizen to Belgian Trappist ales and English ales, to craft-driven IPAs, Lambics, Stouts, and Sours. Those who systematically taste their way through the weekend won't get far even with small tasting portions – it's a festival to return to.
On 18 stages, spread across the entire avenue, live music plays continuously: cover bands, rock acts, Schlager, dance groups, and folk music from the breweries' countries of origin. The music remains family-friendly, and the audience is a cross-section of Berlin – regulars from the Friedrichshain pub scene, international tourists, families with children (especially on Sundays), and beer connoisseurs from all over Europe.
The festival was founded in 1997 and celebrates its 30th edition in 2026. The organizer is the Berlin agency PRAESENTA Ltd., which has been organizing the event since its inception. Admission remains free – one of the few major Berlin Volksfeste (public festivals) that doesn't charge an entrance fee. Payment is made exclusively at the beer and food stands.
The anniversary format for the 30th edition remains within the established three-day framework: Karl-Marx-Allee between Strausberger Platz and Frankfurter Tor will be completely closed to traffic, brewery stands will set up along the entire 2.2 km avenue, and 18 stages will be spread across the route, playing live music from the breweries' countries of origin non-stop. The focus in 2026 will be, as usual, on German specialties, Belgian Trappist ales, and English ales, alongside a growing craft beer section with IPAs, Sours, and experimental styles.
The complete stage and brewery program will be published in July 2026.
Free admission. Payment is made exclusively at the beer and food stands. Beer prices range from €2–5 depending on the stand (small tasting sizes €2–3, regular glasses €3.50–5). Collectible glass with deposit (approx. €3) at the entrance stand. Street food prices are at normal festival levels.
