In Extremo — the pioneers of German medieval rock
The band In Extremo from Berlin has been one of the defining bands of the German medieval rock genre since the 1990s. With bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, shawm, and heavy guitar riffs, In Extremo combine medieval lyrics with modern rock. Several gold records, top 10 album placements, and over two million records sold make the band one of the most successful representatives of their genre. Open-air concerts at historic castles are their trademark.
Creuzburg Castle — hilltop castle above the Werra
Creuzburg castle in the Wartburg district (state of Thuringia) is one of the best-preserved hilltop castles in Central Germany. It was built in the 11th century above the Werra river and served as the seat of the Landgraves of Thuringia. Saint Elisabeth spent part of her youth here. Today, the castle is an important cultural monument with a medieval museum and event venue — the castle courtyard offers an atmospheric setting for around 2,500 visitors during open-air concerts.
