Regional evening markets with live music in the Magdeburger Börde
In Gröningen — the small town between Halberstadt and Magdeburg, in the heart of the Magdeburger Börde — the Feierabendmarkt (evening market) has established itself as a summer event. Every third Thursday from May to September, the forecourt of the Kulturhaus at Marktstraße 7 transforms into an evening market with live music. The 2026 dates: May 21st, June 18th, August 20th, and September 17th, each from 4 PM to 8 PM.
The concept is clear: no hectic daytime market rush, but a cozy end to the week with what the region between the Harz mountains and the Elbe has to offer. Seasonal fruits and vegetables, cheese from the Börde, fresh bread, eggs, sausages, and honey are the focus. In addition, there are street food stalls and gastronomy from the surrounding area. Producers and artists from the municipality of Westliche Börde are explicitly invited — the market is advertising for local crafts and agriculture.
Each market event is accompanied by music — mostly regional bands, singer-songwriters, or small combos that provide atmospheric background music without dominating the market activities. As dusk falls from August onwards, the atmosphere becomes magical. The market is family-friendly and easily accessible in the village center of Gröningen.
The Magdeburger Börde in the state of Saxony-Anhalt is one of Germany's most fertile landscapes — black earth soils, large-scale farming, sugar beets, wheat. Gröningen is located in the district of Börde, in the municipality of Westliche Börde. Visitors to the Feierabendmarkt can combine their visit with a trip to the nearby Halberstadt Cathedral or a bike tour along the Bode river.
In 2026, the Feierabendmarkt Gröningen (evening market) will run on four Thursdays between May and September. The first date on May 21st opens the series, followed by June 18th, August 20th, and September 17th. Each market runs from 4 PM to 8 PM — intentionally after work hours, transitioning into the summer evening.
The market is supported by the municipality of Westliche Börde, which actively recruits vendors and artists from the region. Stall fee: €10 per day — intentionally low to allow small and hobby vendors to participate.
