Traditional village festival on the village green in the northern Harz foothills
The Volksfest Groß Quenstedt is one of the many classic village festivals that have a tradition in the northern Harz foothills of Saxony-Anhalt. The venue is the Dorfanger (village green) or the adjacent Schulweg in Groß Quenstedt – a meeting point for the village community for generations. Like many summer festivals in the region, the Volksfest Groß Quenstedt is organized on a voluntary basis by a group of local clubs.
Groß Quenstedt belongs to the Vorharz municipality in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt and is located north of the cathedral city of Halberstadt. Its location between the Harz foothills and the Magdeburger Börde, and its proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Quedlinburg and the Halberstadt Cathedral Treasury, make the region very attractive for a festival visit with a cultural program.
The program follows the proven mix of a North German village festival: Opening in the late afternoon or evening with live music or a DJ, a festival tent with draft beer, bratwurst, and grilled specialties, as well as candy and game stalls for children. On Sundays, there is often a Frühschoppen (morning pint) with brass music, a family program, and winding down in the late afternoon.
The organizer typically publishes the exact date for 2026 a few weeks before the festival on vorharz.net and in local notice boards. The event traditionally takes place on a weekend in mid-June – so orient your rough travel planning around a weekend in June 2026.
The event calendar of the association of Vorharz clubs published mid-June as the festival date on the Groß Quenstedt village green for the year 2025. The festival framework for 2026 is not yet officially public as of the current research, but is expected – as every year – at the beginning/middle of June.
The program traditionally includes a festival tent with live music or DJ music, food, beer, and game stalls, a children's area, and a Frühschoppen on Sunday. The exact schedule and participating bands will be announced by the organizing clubs a few weeks before the date.
Program announcements and the exact date for 2026 are expected to appear in May 2026 on vorharz.net or in the community's notice boards.
