Six days of Volksfest on the market square with Ferris wheel premiere and club parade
The Holzkirchner Frühlingsfest is the largest Volksfest (popular festival) in the market town of Holzkirchen in the Miesbach district. For six days, the central market square of this Upper Bavarian market town — south of Munich, at the gateway to the Alpine foothills with Tegernsee and Schliersee — transforms into a festival ground with rides, showman stalls, and a festival tent.
The organizer is the Musikzug Holzkirchen e.V., a brass band that has existed for over a hundred years, which organizes the festival as a supporting association. The proceeds flow entirely into maintaining music culture — instrument purchases, uniforms, rehearsal space, and music promotion for the youth department. Thus, the festival is both a community event and a fundraising event for local music activities.
The 2026 edition features a sensation: for the first time, a Ferris wheel will be erected on the market square. This premiere signifies the growing importance of the festival and adds a spectacular new feature to the town's skyline. In addition to this, the proven rides such as bumper cars, a chain carousel, children's carousels, shooting galleries, and food stalls will be present.
The social highlight is the Day of Clubs on the festival Sunday: all Holzkirchen clubs — traditional costume groups, fire brigade, marksmen, sports clubs, and music associations — present themselves to the local community with a ceremonial parade. The procession starts at 10 a.m. and leads through the town center to the festival grounds. Afterwards, a Frühschoppen (morning pint) with brass music takes place in the festival tent.
With around 17,000 inhabitants, Holzkirchen is one of Upper Bavaria's most important market towns and home to significant businesses (including SZ Verlag, Allianz). The BMW city of Munich is reachable in 30 minutes via the A8 motorway — making the Frühlingsfest a popular excursion destination for Munich families as well.
The 2026 edition is a special one: for the first time, a Ferris wheel will be erected on the Holzkirchen market square, its height newly shaping the festival's appearance. The established program elements remain: rides for families and adults, stalls with sweets and snacks, and a large festival tent with daily changing music programs.
The organizer in 2026 is again the Musikzug Holzkirchen e.V. — proceeds go towards maintaining the association.
