Hörnum Harbour Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition is confirmed on the official Sylt.de and sylt-unterkunft.de pages. As every year, Hörnum Harbour transforms into a festival mile with stages, food stalls, and a children's area.
For 2026, a similar format to 2025 is expected: cover bands, local artists, the Sylt Shanty Choir, and dance performances. Detailed acts are traditionally announced a few weeks before the festival.

Maritime Weekend at the Harbour
The Hörnum Harbour Festival is one of the major summer events on the island of Sylt. While the northern island towns of Westerland and List are primarily known for their beach culture, the south with Hörnum shapes a different Sylt identity: more maritime, more traditional, less loud. The harbour festival perfectly captures this atmosphere — a combination of a folk festival (Volksfest), concert evening, and family program in an authentic harbour setting.
35 Years of Tradition
In 2026, the Harbour Festival turns 35 years old. Over the decades, it has evolved from a simple harbour festival into a three-day event with an extensive music, gastronomy, and children's program. The organizer is the Tourismus-Service Hörnum.
Three Days of Programming
- Live Music on the harbour stage — cover bands, local acts, shanty choirs, DJ sets in the late hours
- Food Trucks and gastronomy: fish rolls, Mediterranean specialities, gourmet burgers, sweet treats
- Children's Program: Hands-on workshops (pottery, stone carving), face painting, pirate adventures, show demonstrations on Wadden Sea wildlife rescue
- Wadden Sea Education: Booths from the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Wattenmeer National Park with interactive exhibitions
Spectacular Fireworks Display
The highlight is the grand fireworks display on Saturday evening, which bathes Hörnum Harbour and the surrounding southern tip of the island in colourful light. Thousands of spectators line the harbour — the sight is one of the most popular Sylt memories for many regular guests.
Connection between Hörnum and the Island Centre
To ensure that overnight guests from Westerland and Wenningstedt can return safely and stress-free, the tourism service offers free shuttle buses late at night — typically at 00:30 and 01:30 on Friday and Saturday. This combination of a central southern location and northern connectivity makes the Harbour Festival the only event on the island that brings together all Sylt communities.
Hörnum on Sylt
Hörnum (Sylt) is the southernmost municipality on the island and belongs to the district of Nordfriesland in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The village with just under 900 inhabitants lives from tourism and fishing and is one of the oldest harbours on Sylt. The Harbour Festival builds on this maritime identity and makes the southern tip of the island the centre of the entire island for three days.
