Three Days of Festival in the Heart of the Old Town
When the stages are set up on Bremen's Marktplatz in front of the Town Hall and Roland statue, it's time for the HOEG CitySommerFest. As the Hanseatic city's only inner-city open-air festival, it takes over the entire old town: Marktplatz, Domshof, LLOYD PASSAGE, Hanseatenhof, and the winding Schnoorviertel become performance venues for over 40 acts on multiple stages. For three days, Bremen's city center – the city's 'good room' – transforms into a continuous festival mile, and admission is free on all days.
Music of All Genres
The program is deliberately broad: the musical spectrum ranges from Rock and Pop to Funk, Folk, Reggae, Soul, and Singer-Songwriter. Over 40 live acts perform simultaneously on the various stages, allowing you to curate your own festival day from the dense program – from the main stage at the Marktplatz to smaller venues in the alleys.
Street Art and Slacklining Above the Rooftops
Beyond the music, the festival emphasizes diversity: live street art and a graffiti contest at the Hanseatenhof, literary readings by regional authors in the Schnoorviertel, and a hands-on program for children are integral parts. A spectacular highlight are the high-wire artists and slackliners who balance at dizzying heights between the tallest roofs of the city center, crossing the Marktplatz and Domshof – including a freestyle competition right before the main acts. A diverse gastronomic offering completes the festival.
World Heritage as a Festival Stage
Bremen's Marktplatz with its Town Hall and Roland statue is a UNESCO World Heritage site – a more impressive backdrop for a city festival is hardly conceivable in the state of Bremen. The HOEG CitySommerFest is organized by CityInitiative Bremen Werbung e.V. with the participation of numerous downtown stakeholders. Since its inception in 2022, it has become a firm fixture in Bremen's summer event calendar, bringing the Hanseatic music and cultural scene to life in the heart of the old town.
