Wine in Bremen's Finest Setting
When pavilions are erected on Bremen's Market Square in front of the Town Hall and Roland statue, and the aroma of fine wines wafts through the old town, it's the Bremen Wine Festival. For four days, vintners, regional wine merchants, and restaurateurs transform the Market Square, the front Domshof, and the Grasmarkt into a meeting point for wine lovers. Around two dozen exhibitors from German growing regions will be pouring — alongside wine, also brandies, liqueurs, and non-alcoholic grape juices.
Wine Culture with Music and Literature
The Bremen Wine Festival is more than just a tasting: the organizers combine wine tasting with a musical and literary program, thus creating a pleasant atmosphere with educational insights into wine culture. The stylishly designed pavilions form an elegant backdrop in front of the historic Parliament building and the Town Hall. The festival is organized by CityInitiative Bremen Werbung e.V., with support from DEHOGA in 2025.
Bremen's Centuries-Old Wine Trading Tradition
Bremen has been a city of wine trade for centuries — the Bremer Ratskeller (Bremen Town Hall cellar) in the vaults beneath the Town Hall is one of Germany's oldest wine cellars: the city's wine cellar moved in as early as the Town Hall was built in 1405, to supply the citizens with wine. In the Rosekeller, the oldest barrel wine in Germany, a Rüdesheimer vintage from 1653, is stored, and in the treasury, the oldest still purchasable bottled wine, a Rüdesheimer Apostelwein from 1727. With around 650 varieties exclusively of German wines from all 13 growing regions, the Ratskeller is a world leader — and, like the Town Hall and Roland, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004. The Bremen Wine Festival consciously builds on this Hanseatic heritage and makes it accessible to a broad audience.
A Young Festival with Great Acclaim
As a relatively young festival, the Bremen Wine Festival has quickly secured a firm place in the Bremen state's summer calendar since its premiere in 2025. It brings German wine culture directly to the city's most beautiful backdrop, combining enjoyment, encounters, and the historic flair of the Hanseatic city into a relaxed late-summer highlight right in the heart of the old town.
