Anniversary Edition: 125 Years of Karlsruhe Rhine Harbours — one of Germany's largest inland port festivals
From Thursday, June 25th, to Sunday, June 28th, 2026, the HafenKulturFest will be held in its anniversary edition at the Karlsruhe Rhine Harbour. In 2026, the Karlsruhe Rhine Harbours celebrate their 125th anniversary — opened in 1901 as an industrial policy statement, they are now one of Germany's most important inland ports. The Hafen-Kultur-Fest, held annually on the last weekend of June since 2001, is one of Germany's largest and most popular inland port festivals.
Thursday, June 25th, 2026, serves as a warm-up: DJ Michael Spleth will be playing right by the water — a relaxed set to kick off the season, with views of the harbour basins and the impressive industrial backdrop. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will feature the quadruple main programme with multiple stages, an international culinary offering, and many special events.
The musical spectrum ranges from Rock and Surf-Rock-Reggae to Shanty choirs and French chansons, as well as Jazz and Big Band. One of the highlights is the floating harbour stage — an open-air stage built especially for the festival, right on the water, from which various bands will perform throughout the festival weekend. The mix of harbour atmosphere and live music is the hallmark of the HafenKulturFest.
In addition to the music, there are numerous maritime highlights: The traditional Stadtwerke Cup, a rowing regatta by Rheinbrüder Karlsruhe, ensures sporting excitement on the water. The MS Karlsruhe offers free harbour tours — an opportunity to experience the enormous harbour facilities from the water. Spectacular water rescue exercises by the DLRG and the fire brigade demonstrate emergency scenarios, historical railway rides by the Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde showcase the harbour railways from a different era, and from the telescope crane, a panoramic view is offered from a height of 40 metres.
The Karlsruhe Rhine Harbour is located between the districts of Knielingen (to the north) and Daxlanden (to the south), both in the west of the city. Spread across three harbour basins — Verbindungskanal, Becken I, and Becken II — the harbour now has a total area of around 240 hectares. Approximately 5,700 jobs and over 200 companies are based here. The HafenKulturFest annually makes this industrial landscape accessible to the public of Karlsruhe — a large-scale "open house" day.
Karlsruhe, with around 310,000 inhabitants, is the capital of the Karlsruhe administrative district, located on the Upper Rhine on the French border. It is primarily known as the "Fächerstadt" (Fan City, with 32 streets radiating from the castle like a fan) and as the seat of the Federal Constitutional Court and the Federal Court of Justice. The city's harbour identity, however, is less visible — which is precisely why the HafenKulturFest is an annual event that familiarizes the citizens of Karlsruhe with their harbour side.
From Thursday, June 25th, to Sunday, June 28th, 2026, the Karlsruhe Rhine Harbour will celebrate its 125th anniversary with the HafenKulturFest. The festival backdrop — three harbour basins, industrial facilities, ships — transforms into a stage landscape with multiple open-air stages, food stalls, and maritime special events.
