Saarland Fastnacht spectacle in the Saalbau Homburg – over 140 performers on stage
The Homburger Narrenzunft (HNZ) is one of the most traditional Fastnacht societies in the Saarpfalz district. Its Prunksitzung is the social highlight of the Saarland Karneval season and fills the Saalbau Homburg to capacity every year. Even in 2026, the event is sold out long before the date.
The 2026 season motto sets a clear political accent. It honours the cultural diversity of Europe at a time when the EU is under political pressure – a typical characteristic of Saarland Fastnacht, which always has an international flair in the border region between Germany and France.
The Prunksitzung is brought to life by over 140 performers: the Garde dancers, the youth dance group (in previous years with themes like "Ghost Performance"), the show dance group "Cremöscher" with emotional choreographies, the children's group "Tanzmäuse" ("Party in the Zoo"), as well as various jesters and comedians like Ansgar Hoffmann as "Till" or the character "Wellnessa Schwitz-Stink".
The Prunksitzung traditionally begins at 7:11 PM – a common reference in Karneval to the number eleven, considered a jester's lucky number. The approximately four-hour event alternates between dance performances, political satire, singing acts, and audience participation.
Homburg is the district town of Saarpfalz with around 43,000 inhabitants and is located in the eastern Saarland, on the border with Rhineland-Palatinate. The town is known for the Saalbau (a modern event centre) and the Schlossberghöhlen (Europe's largest sandstone caves). With its Prunksitzung, the HNZ is the cultural centre of the Homburg Karneval scene.
