One of Germany's largest rock festivals at Störmthaler See — August 13th to 16th, 2026
Highfield Festival has been held at Störmthaler See in the Leipzig Neuseenland since 2010, south of Leipzig — a festival in a unique location right on the water of a former mining landscape. It was founded in 2004 in Erfurt; after stops in Hohenfelden and at Cospudener See, Störmthaler See has been its permanent home since 2010. Organized by FKP Scorpio (one of Europe's largest concert promoters), the festival now attracts around 35,000 visitors per day and is one of the most important open-airs for the German-language indie, rock, and crossover scene.
The 2026 edition runs from August 13th to 16th and features some of the biggest names in the German-language indie-rock scene on the main stages, including Kraftklub, SDP, Beatsteaks, Marteria, Feine Sahne Fischfilet, and Dropkick Murphys. In addition, numerous other acts will perform on multiple stages — from pop-punk and hip-hop to electronic music. The new 'Electric Beach' stage, introduced for 2026 and located directly on the lake shore, expands the program with electronic music (including DJ Sportschuh, Clara B2B Flavius) from Thursday to Sunday.
Highfield is a classic camping festival: those who buy a festival ticket can stay at the festival campsite directly at Störmthaler See. Swimming in the lake, a food court with international cuisine, and a festival mile with quirky activities — these elements make Highfield more than just about the music. A warm-up party on August 13th kicks off the long weekend. Camping upgrades and VIP packages are available, as is a free festival app and an official Spotify playlist for preparation.
Markkleeberg is located in the Leipzig district in Saxony, directly south of the major city of Leipzig. Störmthaler See — part of the Leipzig Neuseenland — is a former lignite mining area that was flooded and renatured starting in the 2000s. Today, the Neuseenland, with over 20 lakes, is one of Germany's youngest cultural landscapes. Highfield Festival is one of the region's highlights and a magnet for young festival-goers from all over Central Germany, Berlin, and beyond.
From Thursday, August 13th, 2026 (Warm-Up Party) to Sunday, August 16th, 2026, the festival grounds at Störmthaler See will transform into one of Saxony's largest camping festivals. On multiple stages — including the new 'Electric Beach' directly by the water — around 35,000 festival-goers will enjoy performances by the biggest names in the German-language rock, indie, and crossover scene.
Festival camping by the lake, swimming opportunities in Störmthaler See, a food court with international cuisine, and a festival mile with quirky activities characterize the surrounding atmosphere. A free festival app and an official Spotify playlist will accompany the weekend.
