Mitteldeutschland's Largest Agricultural Exhibition at the Markkleeberg Exhibition Grounds
When the first tractors roll onto the agra exhibition grounds in Markkleeberg and the breed shows are prepared, one of Germany's largest agricultural trade fairs opens its doors. For decades, the agra has been the central meeting point for the agricultural and food industry in Central Germany — the states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, and Brandenburg. It takes place every two years.
The agra 2026 took place from April 9th to 12th and, despite challenging market conditions, demonstrated the fair's central importance to the industry. 814 exhibitors, 857 livestock in breed shows, over 230 individual events, and 52,106 visitors across more than 110,000 m² of exhibition space form the key figures. Eight topic clusters structured the offerings, ranging from modern agricultural machinery and livestock shows to economy, science, practice, and politics.
The heart of the agra has always been two worlds presented in parallel: on one hand, state-of-the-art agricultural machinery and technologies — tractors, combine harvesters, harvesting equipment, drones, digital technology — and on the other hand, breed shows by East German breeding associations featuring cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and horses. The combination of high-tech and traditional craftsmanship makes the agra a unique showcase for the industry.
The agra also serves as a political and social meeting point: representatives from business, science, and politics discuss the future of Central German agriculture in panel sessions. Farmers' associations, research institutions, and universities are present, as are machinery manufacturers and cooperatives. Families can enjoy an accompanying program with hands-on activities, a children's area, and demonstrations.
Markkleeberg is located in the Leipzig district, directly south of the major city and on the Cospudener See lake in the Leipzig Neuseenland region. The agra exhibition grounds on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße are a separate exhibition facility next to the Neue Messe Leipzig — historically, it is the more traditional site (former GDR agricultural exhibition). A day trip to Cospudener See or a visit to Leipzig's city center is a natural extension.
814 exhibitors presented agricultural machinery, livestock, and industry solutions. 52,106 trade fair visitors came to the 110,000 m² site in Markkleeberg.
