The "most legendary race in the East" — obstacle run with over 4,000 participants at Markkleeberger See, September 26 and 27, 2026
Anyone who has ever started at CrossDeLuxe knows: this is no ordinary race. It's an obstacle run, a natural spectacle, a mud bath, and a communal experience all at once. Organized by the club Sportfreunde Neuseenland e.V. at Markkleeberger See — a renatured former lignite opencast mine in the Leipziger Neuseenland — the CrossDeLuxe attracts over 4,000 participants from all over Germany and beyond year after year. From beginners to hardcore athletes, there's something for everyone.
The 2026 CrossDeLuxe weekend takes place on September 26 and 27. There are two main distances: Big9 with a length of 9 km and over 30 obstacles, suitable for ambitious recreational athletes; Hard18 with 18 km and over 60 obstacles for the hardcore athletes. The course leads around the Markkleeberger See and through the adjacent terrain — mud pits, water obstacles, walls, ropes, steep climbs, and sand passages alternate. Those who don't make it over an obstacle can compensate with burpees — the goal is not the fastest time, but to finish.
One week before the main event, on September 19 and 20, 2026, the AOK PLUS Family-CrossDeLuxe will take place — a light version for children and parents. Distances: 1 km (for the little ones) and 3.5 km (for older children and teenagers). The obstacles are adapted to age, with fun being the priority.
Markkleeberg is located immediately south of Leipzig, on the edge of the Leipziger Neuseenland — one of Europe's largest artificial lake landscapes, created by flooding former lignite opencast mines after reunification. Markkleeberger See is one of the four large lakes in this region and a popular spot for water sports and local recreation. With the Kanupark-Markkleeberg, the former whitewater course of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games used secondarily, the town has a firm place on Germany's sporting map. The CrossDeLuxe makes perfect use of this natural and sports infrastructure.
Over 4,000 participants from all over Germany will once again conquer the Markkleeberger See on the last weekend of September 2026. Two distances are available: Big9 (9 km, 30+ obstacles) for ambitious recreational athletes and Hard18 (18 km, 60+ obstacles) for hardcore athletes. The course leads through mud, water, over walls, ropes, steep sections, and sand passages — a real challenge for endurance and courage.
Those who don't make it over an obstacle can compensate with burpees. The goal is not victory, but to finish — the CrossDeLuxe is a communal and nature experience at the same time.
