3rd Gifhorn Autumn Market in the city center – seasonal and regional products
The Gifhorn Autumn Market builds on the decades-long tradition of the harvest festival (Erntedankfest), which is one of the oldest festivals of the agricultural year in the region. In its current form as a modern market event, the autumn market was first held in 2024. With its third edition in 2026, the market has established itself in the city's event calendar.
The focus of the market is on direct marketers from the Gifhorn district and surrounding regions. Fruit and vegetable growers, beekeepers with honey and mead, cheese dairies, distilleries, bakers with sourdough specialties, heather manufacturers, and producers of jams, syrups, and liqueurs present their products. This makes the autumn market a showcase event for the regional food and enjoyment industry.
The seasonal focus is the program. Pumpkins, apples, game, and mushrooms are among the market's themes. Tastings, workshops, and lectures complement the sales offerings. The connection to the heather tradition – for example, with heather honey and heath sheep products – is also evident.
The market is designed as a family event. On a stage, music groups, demonstrations, and hands-on activities alternate. For children, there are craft activities with autumnal natural materials, small competitions, and tastings. The central location in the pedestrian zone makes the market easily accessible for families from the entire district.
For seven hours, the pedestrian zone becomes a regional gourmet mile. Around forty to sixty stalls will present seasonal products from the Gifhorn district and the Lüneburg Heath. Pumpkins in numerous varieties, old apple varieties, heather honey, pears, quinces, mushrooms, game specialties, and autumnal baked goods form the core of the assortment.
On the stage in the city center, music groups with folk and modern sounds will alternate throughout the day. Demonstrations from the farm café culture sector and small workshops on processing autumnal products will complement the offerings. For families, craft activities with chestnuts, acorns, leaves, and pumpkins are prepared.
