About Hellringer Dult
Hellringer Dult — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Hellringer Dult spans five days from October 8 to 12. At its heart is the pilgrimage to St. Ottilia's Church with its holy spring. Throughout the Dult, local farmers, thanks to their traditional innkeeping right, turn their farms into inns and serve roast goose, duck, and pork. The highlight is Market Sunday on October 11, featuring the pilgrimage market: stalls selling baked goods, clothing, and household items, as well as a small amusement park with rides.

Pilgrimage and Dult for Centuries
The Hellringer Dult is deeply rooted in the religious and cultural traditions of Eastern Bavaria. Hellring is a small hamlet near Langquaid in the Kelheim district of the state of Bavaria. For centuries, believers have made pilgrimages to the local pilgrimage church dedicated to St. Ottilia.
St. Ottilia – Patron Saint of the Eyes
According to legend, St. Ottilia was born blind around 660 and was healed by Bishop Erhard of Regensburg during her baptism. She is venerated as the patron saint of the eyes. The holy spring in Hellring attracts over 50 pilgrim groups annually seeking relief from eye ailments. This pilgrimage tradition forms the core of the Dult to this day.
The Centuries-Old Innkeeping Right of the Farmers
A unique special feature is the traditional innkeeping right: local farmers have the centuries-old right to serve food and drinks to pilgrims during the Dult. Several families transform their farms into temporary inns and prepare roast goose, duck, and pork, as well as traditional Bavarian dishes with the whole family. This living custom makes the Hellringer Dult unique.
Market Sunday as the Highlight
The highlight is Market Sunday with the pilgrimage market: stalls offer baked goods, clothing, and household items, along with a small amusement park with rides. The Hellringer Dult is thus a rare example of the living connection between popular piety, tradition, and fair tradition in Lower Bavaria, attracting thousands of visitors over several days.
