Local Festival on the Main
The Heimat- und Quätschichfest is the traditional folk and local festival of the market town of Kreuzwertheim. The town is located in the Main-Spessart district in the Lower Franconia region (state of Bavaria), on the right bank of the Main opposite the city of Wertheim in Baden-Württemberg, at the transition to the Spessart. The venue is the festival grounds at Fährgasse.
The Name “Quätschich”
The unusual festival name comes from the local Franconian dialect and gives the festival its distinctive character. Over the decades, the Quätschichfest has become an integral part of Kreuzwertheim's identity.
Program and Sociability
Traditionally, it kicks off with a vintage car meet along the main street. In the festively decorated marquee, brass band music and modern sounds create a lively atmosphere. This is accompanied by Franconian dishes and beer from a Spessart brewery. A “Day of Businesses” involves local trade and industry.
Meeting Point for the Region
The festival attracts visitors from the entire Main-Spessart district and the adjacent Main-Tauber region. Despite occasional concerns about construction work on the Main bridge, the market town of Kreuzwertheim stuck to the festival date – a sign of the high importance of the local festival.
Lower Franconian Identity
With its dialect name, brass band tradition, regional beer, and lived club culture, the Quätschichfest embodies the down-to-earth festival culture of Lower Franconia on the Main.
