Open House Day for Cultural Institutions in Hamburg's South
Harburg Culture Day is the day when the cultural life in Hamburg's Harburg district becomes visible. More than 20 cultural institutions from the Harburg district and its surroundings open their doors, offering a free program of exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, and special events. This positions Harburg as a culturally active district – beyond the city center and HafenCity.
A special feature of the day: artworks are presented in the shop windows of businesses around Harburg's Rathausplatz during the Culture Day. A stroll through the shopping area becomes a small art trail. Thus, Harburg Culture Day explicitly references the connection between culture, urban development, and retail.
The day traditionally ends with a lantern parade, led by the Harburg marksmen's guild (Harburger Schützengilde), and a small fireworks display on the Rathausplatz – a fitting finale for the November date and a symbol of the day's community spirit.
There are special program items for families: puzzle rallies through several institutions, hands-on activities, child-friendly guided tours. Admission is free everywhere – making the day an easily accessible introduction to Harburg's cultural landscape.
Harburg Marketing e.V. is the district marketing association for Hamburg's Harburg district and organizes a variety of events throughout the year: the White Dinner, the Culture Day, city festivals, and cultural events. The association is financed by membership fees, sponsorships, and district grants.
Expected on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Harburg Culture Day invites you to its 21st edition from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. More than 20 cultural institutions in Hamburg's Harburg district will open their doors, offering exhibitions, guided tours, family rallies, and special events.
In parallel, the area around Rathausplatz will feature "Art in the Shop Window" – works by local artists displayed in shop windows. The day concludes with a lantern parade by the Harburg marksmen's guild and a small fireworks display on Rathausplatz. Admission to all institutions is free.
