Patron Saint's Day and Market Festival
The Hahnbach Market Festival takes place in the market center of Hahnbach, a market town in the Amberg-Sulzbach district in the Oberpfalz region of eastern Bavaria. The festival is celebrated along the main street (B14) and is dedicated to the patron saint's day of the parish, traditionally dedicated to St. James.
Baumaustanzen — The Highlight
The centerpiece of the market festival is the Baumaustanzen. The Kirwa couples in traditional costume—Dirndl and Lederhosen—dance around the decorated Kirwabaum (festival tree) until the last couple has "danced it out". The custom attracts numerous spectators and is considered one of the most vibrant Kirchweih customs in the region.
Festival Mile in the Town Center
Around the Baumaustanzen, Hahnbach transforms into a festival mile: stalls, catering, music, and social gatherings characterize the day. The market festival is organized by the Hahnbach Cultural Committee.
Upper Palatinate Customs
The Kirwa custom with the Kirwabaum, the head Kirwa couple, and the Baumaustanzen is deeply rooted in the Oberpfalz. The Hahnbach Market Festival combines this tradition with the sociable character of a village and market festival and is firmly anchored in the event calendar of the market town of Hahnbach.

For 2026, the Hahnbach Market Festival is confirmed for Saturday, July 25. The celebration will take place in the market center along the main street/B14 in Hahnbach.
The market celebrates its patron saint's day, and the town center becomes a festival mile. The highlight is the traditional Baumaustanzen, where the Kirwa couples dance in Dirndl and Lederhosen. The festival is organized by the Hahnbach Cultural Committee.
