Three days of medieval market, marksmen's festival, and bathtub regatta in Southwest Mecklenburg
Hagenow, one of the largest towns in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district with just under 12,000 inhabitants, has celebrated its Old Town and Marksmen's Festival annually in June since 1991. The combination of citizens' marksmen tradition, folk festival, and urban city festival makes the event one of the most diverse festivals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The Hagenow Bathtub Regatta is one of the most unusual and popular program points: self-built, seaworthy bathtubs compete against each other on the Mühlenteich. Judged not only on speed but also on costumes, boat decoration, fairness, and good spirits. Each participating team receives 80 euros and a change of clothes; the coveted challenge trophy is presented personally by the mayor. After a five-year hiatus, the regatta returned in 2024 thanks to a donation from Raiffeisenbank and has been a firm fixture of the program ever since.
The venue is the old town with its neoclassical town hall, the late Baroque city church, and the Mühlenteich. Hagenow is one of the oldest towns in southwestern Mecklenburg and was once an important stopover on the Old Salt Route between Lüneburg and Schwerin. This historical substance forms the backdrop into which stages and stalls are integrated.
The event is organized by the town of Hagenow together with associations, the marksmen's guild, traders, and the tourism information office. In the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, the Old Town and Marksmen's Festival is one of the most visited events of the summer.
The 2026 edition continues the proven multi-day concept: Friday afternoon opening with the marksmen's parade, live bands on the stages in the evening, Saturday full family program with medieval market, archery, jugglers, and stage concerts, Saturday or Sunday the bathtub regatta on the Mühlenteich, Sunday traditional morning pint and marksmen's ball. The exact program schedule will be published by the city of Hagenow in due time.
