Running without Time – With Fun and Donations

The HafenCity Run deliberately sets itself apart from other Hamburg running events: there is no electronic timing, no competition, no personal bests. Instead, participants run together at a moderate pace for approx. 4.5 km through Hamburg's youngest district – HafenCity. The focus is on team spirit, charity engagement, and the shared experience of the city.

Route through the New Hamburg

The start and finish line is at Baakenhöft in the east of HafenCity. The route varies annually to integrate new construction sections of HafenCity into the run. Participants run past the iconic landmarks of Hamburg's new district: Elbphilharmonie, Magellan-Terrassen, Marco-Polo-Tower, Lohsepark. HafenCity is considered one of the largest contiguous inner-city urban development projects in Europe.

Charity at the Forefront

The charity partner is Hamburger Abendblatt hilft e.V., the charitable foundation of the Hamburg local newspaper. The proceeds from entry fees and team fundraising activities flow entirely to non-profit projects in Hamburg. The format thus specifically targets companies that want to make their commitment to the Hanseatic city visible.

• Corporate Teams: from 10 people per team
• Private Runners: via the joint team "Team Hamburg.Gemeinsam!"
• Registration Deadline: May 6th, 2026
• Start Time: 9:00 AM at Baakenhöft
• Route: approx. 4.5 km through HafenCity
• No timing – run at a moderate group pace

Organizer and Tradition

The organizer is BMS Die Laufgesellschaft mbH, an established provider of running events in Northern Germany. The HafenCity Run has established itself in recent years as the largest corporate and charity run in Northern Germany. Several thousand runners from Hamburg companies gather annually at Baakenhöft – a spectacle that shapes the image of HafenCity on this Saturday morning.
