elbsommer – Summer in HafenCity

When summer returns to the Elbe, HafenCity belongs to Hamburg's residents once again: for almost two decades, elbsommer has been the event series that enlivens the newest district on the waterfront. Every weekend from June to August, a different stage opens on the Überseeboulevard, in Lohse-Park, and along the promenades – always with free admission.

Dance, Comedy, Sport, and Poetry

The concept is deliberately broad: Salsa and Tango evenings with an open-air dance floor, stand-up comedy to start the season, poetry slams on Magellan-Terrassen Sundays, yoga by the water, outdoor sports classes, and readings by local authors alternate. The series is aimed at residents and visitors alike – a relaxed mix that positions the HafenCity and Rothenburgsort districts as a growing cultural hub in Hamburg.

Hamburg, Hamburg-Mitte District

The event is organized by HafenCity Hamburg GmbH together with local cultural partners. Located in the Hamburg-Mitte district, elbsommer benefits from its direct proximity to the Elbe River, the Elbphilharmonie, and the Speicherstadt – a backdrop you'll only find in Hamburg in this form. Spontaneity is the name of the game: spaces are available without registration, and the weather-dependent program is announced at short notice on elbsommer.com.

Free admission, Hamburg lifestyle included

All events are free. All you need to bring is a good mood and, for the dance evenings, comfortable shoes. If you get hungry, you'll find cafés, ice cream parlors, and food trucks around the Überseeboulevard. You can't get more North German summer than this.
