About Haarer Volksfest

Every summer, the Haarer Volksfest transforms the circus meadow on the B 304 into a small, cozy Volksfest (public festival) setting for the Munich suburban community of Haar. Wildbräu beer is served in the beer tent run by Robert Schmidt (Schmidt Festzeltbetrieb from Straubing), Bavarian bands provide the atmosphere, and there are bumper cars, children's rides, and a traditional parade from St. Konrad Church to the festival tent. Afterwards, the cultural week »SOMMA in der Stadt« begins.

Volksfest on the Outskirts of Munich

The Haarer Volksfest is the young, friendly summer festival of the municipality of Haar in the district of Munich (Bavaria). On the circus meadow at the intersection of the B 304 and Ludwig-van-Beethoven-Straße, a classic Bavarian Volksfest ensemble is set up with a festival tent, showmen, and a parade. With around 1,400 seats, the tent is family-sized – a deliberate contrast to the Munich Oktoberfest (Wiesn) and a meeting point for residents from Haar, Vaterstetten, Putzbrunn, and Munich's eastern districts.

Festival Tent, Wildbräu, and Live Music

The festival tent is operated by Robert Schmidt of Schmidt Festzeltbetrieb from Straubing in Lower Bavaria. Wildbräu from Grafing is served, and the tent kitchen offers Bavarian classics such as roast chicken, pork roast, pork shoulder, and vegetarian alternatives. On stage, musical bands from the region alternate with Oktoberfest and cover bands.

Parade, Showmen, and Family Program

The highlight is the parade on Sunday, which leads from St. Konrad Church to the festival tent. Clubs, traditional costume groups, and music bands march through Haar, accompanied by the municipal leadership. On the festival grounds, bumper cars, chain swings, children's rides, a shooting gallery, a lottery stall, and candy stands create a classic Volksfest atmosphere. Special family and senior afternoons with reduced prices complete the program.

SOMMA in der Stadt

The Volksfest seamlessly transitions into »SOMMA in der Stadt« – a summer cultural and event week that brings concerts, art, and an artists' mile into Haar's public spaces. This extends the festival period for the approximately 20,000 residents by a creative week, making Haar a festive meeting place on the edge of the Munich gravel plain.

A Young Tradition in the District of Munich

The Haarer Volksfest was launched in 2023 and has established itself as a firm fixture in the community's event calendar within a few years. It is organized in cooperation between the municipality of Haar, the festival host, and the showmen – an example of how a unique, down-to-earth Volksfest can emerge even in the affluent commuter belt around Munich, combining Franconian and Old Bavarian inn culture.

Haarer Volksfest — edition 2026

The third edition of the Haarer Volksfest runs from June 26 to June 30, 2026, on the circus meadow on the B 304. The beer tent is operated by Schmidt Festzeltbetrieb with Wildbräu beer, Bavarian bands and cover bands, bumper cars, and children's rides, plus a family and senior afternoon. The highlight is the parade on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from St. Konrad Church to the festival tent. Afterwards, the cultural week SOMMA in der Stadt begins, running until July 6.

The 3rd Haarer Volksfest 2026 takes place from Friday, June 26, to Tuesday, June 30, 2026. In the festival tent with around 1,400 seats, Wildbräu from Grafing is served. On the festival grounds, bumper cars and chain swings spin, along with a shooting gallery, lottery stall, and candy stands.
