Volksfest on Munich's Eastern Outskirts
Vaterstetten is a municipality in the district of Ebersberg, directly bordering the Bavarian capital Munich to the east. With around 24,000 inhabitants, Vaterstetten is one of Bavaria's largest municipalities. The Volksfest Vaterstetten takes place annually in June and is one of the most well-known municipal Volksfeste in the Munich area.
Hosts: The Stiftl Couple
- Stiftl: Oktoberfest Experience: Lorenz and Christine Stiftl bring extensive experience as Volksfest and festival tent operators — including managing the well-known Schützenlisl folk singer tent at the Munich Oktoberfest and several Munich restaurants.
- Augustiner Beer: The long-standing cooperation with the Augustiner brewery continues with Stiftl KG — Augustiner Edelstoff from the wooden barrel is the central festival beer.
- Cuisine: In addition to hearty Bavarian festival food, light, modern cuisine is also on the menu.
- Music: Broad program: traditional brass music, cover bands, party bands.
The Program Around the Festival Tent
- Opening Parade: A parade through Vaterstetten is a classic part of the opening program.
- Amusement Rides and Showmen: Carousels, Ferris wheel class, classic Volksfest stalls accompany the festival tent on the festival grounds.
- Six Days Long: Thursday to Tuesday — longer than many Bavarian club festivals, shorter than the very large city Volksfeste.
- Family Times: Family afternoons with reduced prices on amusement rides.
State and Cultural Context
Bavaria, Upper Bavaria administrative region, Ebersberg district. Vaterstetten benefits from its location on the Munich S-Bahn network (S4) — Volksfest visitors from Munich can reach it directly via S-Bahn without driving. This makes the festival a "city Volksfest without city stress".
