Grenz Rodeo Open Air — GDR Punk Rock in the Border Triangle

Neusalza-Spremberg is located in the Görlitz district, very close to the Czech border and just a few kilometers west of the border triangle between Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic — the name "Grenz Rodeo" directly refers to this location. The open-air festival, organized by the local association Kulturbruch Neusalza-Spremberg, is a regular fixture on the East German punk and rock scene calendar.

The venue is the Pferdehof an den Schmiedesteinen — an event site outside the town with meadows, offering space for the stage, bar, and festival audience. The 2026 lineup, featuring Die Skeptiker (GDR punk rock legend), Rawside (German punk rock), Derry, Kackbratze, and Street Hammer, presents five acts on stage — a compact festival with a clear stylistic focus.

Die Skeptiker — An East German Punk Institution

Die Skeptiker, founded in East Berlin in 1986, are among the defining bands of East German punk rock. Their performances have been anchors of GDR punk rock memory for decades and are also part of a vibrant present. With their performance at the Pferdehof, Grenz Rodeo draws supra-regional attention to the festival.

Upper Lusatia and the League of Six Towns

Neusalza-Spremberg is not part of the classic League of Six Towns (Bautzen, Görlitz, Zittau, Löbau, Kamenz, Lauban), but it is located right in the middle of this historic region. Visitors to the festival can combine their trip with visits to Görlitz, Zittau, or the Zittauer Gebirge Nature Park.
