Colorful kites over the landfill hill with Bodden panorama
The Greifswald Kite Festival combines an old tradition with a very special viewpoint: On the Deponieberg on Ladebower Chaussee — a former landfill, now renatured and serving as a viewpoint hill over the Greifswalder Bodden — colorful kites take to the often windy autumn sky every year in early November.
Kites brought by visitors are flown, as are those crafted on-site. Craft stations help the little ones build their own, and a professional pilot demonstrates giant show kites. The program is complemented by active games, a scavenger hunt for various age groups, face painting, a bouncy castle, a quiz with kites as prizes, as well as music and food stalls.
The Deponieberg is a popular spot for walks within Greifswald. Its height and location on Ladebower Chaussee offer a wide view over the Hanseatic city, the Bodden lagoon, and even to the island of Riems. The Kite Festival transforms this easily accessible location into a family event for young and old once a year.
