Aasee Festival — Bocholt's Summer Highlight
When high summer arrives in western Münsterland, one of the most popular regional open-air festivals takes place at Bocholt's Aasee. The Bocholter Aasee Festival transforms the bathing bay of the municipal lake into an open-air festival arena from August 14th to 16th, 2026. Three days of music, culinary diversity, and relaxed summer atmosphere right by the water.
DJs, Live Music with Radio WMW
The musical concept focuses on a mix of live bands and DJ sets. In cooperation with the regional broadcaster Radio WMW, pop, rock, and Schlager formats take the stage during the day, while evenings feature electronic music with House and Charts DJs. The open-air stage overlooking the lake and the setting sun provides one of the most beautiful festival settings in Westmünsterland.
Street Food and Enjoyment Zone
Several food trucks and stalls are spread around the main stage: Burgers, pulled pork, currywurst, crêpes, Asian bowls, and ice cream — the offerings cover classic and modern festival cuisine. Chilled drinks, cocktail bars, and the obligatory festival beer complement the culinary offerings. An area with cocktails and lounge chairs also makes the Aasee Festival a destination for guests who want to enjoy the waterside ambiance in peace.
Free Children's Play Area
What makes the Aasee Festival particularly family-friendly is the large, free play area for children. Bouncy castles, interactive stations, craft workshops, and animators entertain the little ones — perfect for parents to enjoy their festival day relaxed. The play area is open during the day and closes in the early evening.
Fenced-Off Site with Bag Checks
The entire festival area at the bathing bay is fenced off; entry checks with bag inspections are standard. Outside food and drinks, glass bottles, and large backpacks are not allowed — the goal is a safe and relaxed summer atmosphere for everyone. Dogs may be brought along depending on the daily regulations (registration recommended).
Bocholt — Gateway to Münsterland
With around 71,000 inhabitants, Bocholt is the largest city in Westmünsterland and is located directly on the Dutch border, in the district of Borken (North Rhine-Westphalia). The Aasee is the city's blue-green heart — a recreational area, bathing zone, and now a summer festival backdrop. The Aasee Festival is organized by the City of Bocholt in cooperation with local partners and Radio WMW.
