Tuscany as a guest in Middle Franconia — wines from Montespertoli, Italian specialities and live music
Neustadt an der Aisch has had a town twinning with Montespertoli, a municipality in Tuscany south of Florence, for many years. The relationship is actively maintained by the association "Freunde von Montespertoli e.V." — through student exchanges, trips and the annual German-Italian Wine Festival, which brings Tuscan wine culture directly to Middle Franconia.
The wines come directly from the wine-growing areas of Montespertoli and Tuscany: Chianti from the Maiano winery, "Bianco Ripaltino" (white wine), "Rosato Toscano Vini Conti" (rosé) and selected premium Riservas at the "Superiori-Bude". This makes it not a commonplace wine festival, but an authentic Tuscan winery experience in Franconia.
Italian partners from Montespertoli bring authentic Italian dishes and help with festival organisation — from pasta and pizza specialities, crostini, Italian cheeses and cold cuts to tiramisu. The combination of wine and matching dishes directly from the region of origin is the festival's hallmark.
The festival is accompanied musically by the German-Italian duo Roberto & Giorgio, who play Italian classics, Schlager and folk songs. The format is deliberately festive yet relaxed, without major stage productions — the focus is on wine, food, and encounters.
The festival grounds are "Bei den Sommerkellern" in Neustadt an der Aisch — a historic location on the outskirts of town with old beer cellars where beer used to be stored. The grounds are particularly suitable for summer festivals, as the cellar shade and trees offer a pleasant atmosphere even on hot days.
Neustadt an der Aisch is the district town of the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district in Middle Franconia, located on the Aisch river between Nuremberg and Würzburg. The town, with around 13,000 inhabitants, is situated in one of Franconia's most traditional wine regions.
The 2026 festival is officially confirmed by the Neustadt a.d.Aisch city calendar: July 17–18, at the "Bei den Sommerkellern" festival grounds. The organiser remains the association "Freunde von Montespertoli e.V." — the supporting association for the town twinning with the Tuscan municipality of Montespertoli.
The concept remains unchanged: original wines from Montespertoli, Italian partners with authentic cuisine, Duo Roberto & Giorgio providing musical accompaniment.
