Bauhaus City in the Glow of Lights

Dessau-Roßlau is a UNESCO World Heritage site as a Bauhaus city — the Bauhaus buildings and Masters' Houses are pilgrimage sites for architecture lovers from all over the world. In the Advent season, the city shows a different side: The market square with the town hall becomes a winter wonderland. The Dessau Advent Market with Stadtwerke Ice Arena is considered one of the largest Christmas markets in the state of Saxony-Anhalt — and the only one with a truly large real ice arena.

Stadtwerke Ice Arena

The highlight is the Ice Arena: a spacious real ice rink in the middle of the market square, sponsored by Dessau Stadtwerke. Ice skate rental on site, ice hockey tournaments on weekends, ice disco on weekend evenings. The arena has a longer season than the actual Advent market — it remains open until January 6, 2027, i.e., until Epiphany.

50 Stalls, Ferris Wheel, Carousel

Over 50 vendors, mulled wine and bratwurst, almonds and chestnuts, regional handicrafts, Christmas decorations, and gingerbread from Dessau-Roßlau bakeries. In addition, a Ferris wheel for views over the city and a classic carousel for the children. A small stage with a changing program — school choirs, brass ensembles, storytelling sessions — creates the right Advent atmosphere.

Dessau-Roßlau is an independent city in the state of Saxony-Anhalt — one of the most important World Heritage cities in the region. Those visiting the Advent market should take time for the Bauhaus, the Masters' Houses, the Federal Environment Agency, and the Wörlitz Park (UNESCO, 20 km east). A special mix of modern architectural history and cozy Advent atmosphere — typical for the diverse Saxony-Anhalt.
