Benefit music festival for the reconstruction of the Kissinger Hütte
The Rhön-Festival in Wildflecken is an extraordinary musical event in 2026: it arose spontaneously after a devastating fire completely destroyed the 111-year-old Kissinger Hütte in the Hohe Rhön on March 18, 2025. The traditional mountain hut belongs to the Rhönklub and has been a pilgrimage site for hikers and nature lovers for generations. Out of solidarity for its reconstruction, the famous Rhön dialect rock band Rhöner Bluat announced a unique reunion concert – after a 15-year break from performing. Within a few months, this idea grew into a four-day benefit music festival.
The festival runs from June 4th to 7th, 2026, at the festival and sports grounds in Wildflecken in the district of Bad Kissingen, state of Bavaria. A total of around 25 bands and solo artists will perform, ranging from acoustic evenings and folk music to Rhön dialect rock. Thursday and Sunday offer free admission; Friday (Acoustic Jam, €10) and Saturday (Rhöner Bluat Reunion, €20) have small entrance fees. A combined ticket for both concerts costs €25. Youths under 16 have free entry.
The centerpiece of the festival is the reunion performance by Rhöner Bluat on Saturday, June 6, 2026, starting at 7:30 PM – a six-hour live concert by the most famous dialect rock band in the Rhön. The band disbanded 15 years ago and is returning specifically for the Kissinger Hütte. Other headliners include Die Egerländer and Rovers & The Franks on Thursday, Acoustic Jam on Friday, and Klingend Blech on Sunday.
All musicians and artists perform without pay, and all helpers are volunteers. The net proceeds from the entire festival will go directly to the reconstruction of the Kissinger Hütte. Thus, the Rhön-Festival is not just a musical event, but a statement of the entire Rhön region for its mountain tradition and hiking community.
Wildflecken, located in the southern part of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve, is the gateway to one of Germany's most pristine low mountain landscapes. The burned-down Kissinger Hütte was situated at an altitude of around 800 meters in the Schwarze Berge – a scenic icon of the Bavarian Rhön. The festival channels the grief over the hut's destruction into a hopeful reconstruction project.
From June 4th to 7th, 2026, the Wildflecken festival and sports grounds will become the stage for the first Rhön-Festival. The event is organized by the municipality of Wildflecken in cooperation with the dialect rock band Rhöner Bluat, which initiated the festival. The occasion is the dramatic fire that destroyed the Kissinger Hütte on March 18, 2025; the organizers aim to finance its reconstruction through the festival.
Approximately 25 bands and solo artists will perform over the four festival days – all without pay. Thursday opens with Die Egerländer and Rovers & The Franks, Friday features the Acoustic Jam, Saturday hosts the highly anticipated Rhöner Bluat Reunion with a six-hour live program, and Sunday concludes festively with Klingend Blech.
Wildflecken is located on the B 286 between Bad Brückenau and Gersfeld. From Bad Brückenau train station, take the regional bus towards Wildflecken. Parking is available around the festival and sports grounds.
