Background 2025 – The Festival Arose from a Tragedy
The Rhön-Festival in Wildflecken is not a traditional event series: it originated in 2025 as a spontaneous reaction to the fire at the Kissinger Hütte. On March 18, 2025, a fire destroyed the 111-year-old mountain hut down to its foundations.
In the following weeks, initiatives formed throughout the Rhön region for its reconstruction. The former dialect rock band Rhöner Bluat, which had not performed for 15 years, announced a one-time reunion. From this initiative, a four-day benefit festival grew within months, which will be held for the first time in 2026. In 2025 itself, there was no Rhön-Festival yet.
