DVV Marathon and Cycling Day through the Geestmarsch — Parallel event to the Geestmarsch Lindewitt
The Geestmarsch — the landscape strip between Geest and Marsch in northern Schleswig-Holstein — with its flat meadows, extensive fields, and Knicks (typical Schleswig-Holstein hedgerows) is an ideal landscape for popular sports events. For years, the Wanderfreunde Lindewitt e.V. have been organising the annual Geestmarsch event as a dual offering: at the main location Lindewitt with Germany's northernmost DVV Marathon, and in parallel at the secondary location Großenwiehe with the hiking and cycling routes. Both locations are coordinated, and many participants complete routes in both municipalities over the weekend.
The Großenwiehe section of the 2026 event offers:
The Lindewitt section additionally features Germany's northernmost DVV Marathon — a hiking marathon over the full distance.
The event runs as a classic DVV popular hiking day according to DVV standards: registration at the start area in Großenwiehe, a small entry fee, a hiking map with the route marked, control stamps at the stations, and a small snack and a commemorative medal at the finish. There are no competitions — everyone walks or cycles at their own pace. The DVV (Deutscher Volkssportverband) certifies the routes.
Großenwiehe is a municipality in the north of the district of Schleswig-Flensburg, about 15 kilometres south of Flensburg. With just under 2,000 inhabitants, it is one of the larger Geest villages in the region. The municipality has a dense club life — the RuFV Großenwiehe celebrates its 100th anniversary on May 30, 2026, the children's festival in 2026 on June 5, and the Geestmarsch on June 20/21 are just three of many annual events.
The Wanderfreunde Lindewitt e.V. are again organising the Geestmarsch in 2026 as a two-day popular sports event. The Großenwiehe section offers hiking and cycling routes through the typical Geestmarsch landscape. In parallel, the main event takes place in Lindewitt with Germany's northernmost DVV Marathon.
