An industrial site becomes a park
The Maximilianpark Hamm is the result of one of North Rhine-Westphalia's most spectacular industrial site transformations: a 22-hectare park with themed gardens, a butterfly house, and the famous Maxipark glass elephant figure was created on the grounds of the former Maximilian colliery for the 1984 State Garden Show. Today, Maximilianpark Hamm GmbH operates the park as a year-round event venue. The Gartenmarkt BlumenLUST und FrühlingsDUFT is one of its most important spring events.
2026 Program: Perennials, Herbs, Workshops
The market runs for three days: Friday, May 1st to Sunday, May 3rd, 2026, daily from 10 am–6 pm. Over several dozen hand-picked exhibitors will present blooming perennials, exotic shrubs, spring flowers, herbs, garden decorations, garden furniture, seeds, and planters. The focus is on small, often regional nurseries and manufacturers from Westphalia, Münsterland, and the Sauerland region.
Accompanying Program: Stage, Workshops, Family
The supporting program turns the market into a festival:
- Plant advice from experts on location, care, and natural fertilization.
- Herb workshops with demonstrations on applications for wellness and the kitchen.
- Open basket weaving workshop.
- Children's crafts in the tent – free craft stations for the little ones.
- Mobile Trabi music stage from 1989 – street music from a converted Trabant.
- Aerial acrobatics over the event grounds.
- Sunday concert with Peter Weisheit and the Dixie Tramps – jazz from the Ruhr area.
Hamm and the Maxipark Concept
Hamm is located on the eastern edge of the Ruhr area in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, at the intersection with Münsterland and Sauerland. With the Maxipark, the city has one of the most beautiful parks in the region and, at the same time, an event venue that combines garden culture, experience, and recreation. The garden market is one of the most popular weekends in the Maxipark calendar, attracting visitors from all over Westphalia.
