Eight Tuesday evenings of open-air live music in the city center — Free admission
Garding is the central small town on the North Frisian peninsula of Eiderstedt — around 2,800 inhabitants, located between Husum and St. Peter-Ording. With the Musikantenbörse, the town has established one of Northern Germany's most original summer music formats: a decentralized, free open-air festival spread over eight Tuesday evenings in July and August — each evening with two acts on five different stages in the city center.
The Musikantenbörse consistently works with the busking principle: no admission fee, no payment — payment is made through applause and voluntary donations into the hat. The acts are professional musicians from Northern German and national regions who appreciate the format as a performance and meeting platform. Hence the name: Musikantenbörse — a marketplace where musicians, organizers, and the audience meet.
On each festival evening, five stages animate the city center — in squares, in front of shops, in courtyards. On each stage and evening, two bands or solo acts perform — that makes 10 acts per evening, 80 acts spread over the eight weeks. The audience strolls between the stages, listens to each act for 15-30 minutes, and decides where to stay. This stage diversity makes every festival evening a small journey of discovery.
The Musikantenbörse program is deliberately open in style — over the years, it has featured: Jazz, Rock, Folk, Pop, Classical, Chanson, Singer-Songwriter, Country, Blues. In 2026, Steve & Bea, Fru Feddersen, Elena Ley, Folk2Wheel, Gumbo Kitchen, Die Bö, Garding Connection, and many others are on the list. The exact stage-to-act assignment will be announced in the weeks before each Tuesday on musik-fuer-garding.de.
The organizer is the registered association Musik für Garding e. V., based at Markt 3. The association works exclusively on a voluntary basis and finances the festival through hat donations, membership fees, and sponsorship from local businesses. Inquiries exclusively by email to [email protected].
Garding is part of the district of Nordfriesland in the state of Schleswig-Holstein and is located in the heart of the Eiderstedt peninsula — between Husum to the east and St. Peter-Ording on the North Sea coast. The Musikantenbörse is one of the region's most important summer events, attracting music fans from all over the Eiderstedt area, from the mainland, and from the North Frisian islands.
The Musikantenbörse 2026 takes place on eight Tuesday evenings during the high summer: July 7th, July 14th, July 21st, July 28th, August 4th, August 11th, August 18th, and August 25th, 2026. Every evening from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, five stages animate the Garding city center — two acts per stage, a total of 10 live acts per evening.
Among the confirmed acts so far are: Steve & Bea, Fru Feddersen, Elena Ley, Folk2Wheel, Gumbo Kitchen, Die Bö, Garding Connection, and many more. The complete stage-to-act assignment will be announced in the weeks before each Tuesday on the organizer's website.
As always, the musical spectrum in 2026 ranges from Jazz and Folk to Rock and Pop, as well as Classical and Chanson. The acts are professional musicians, and the payment system consistently relies on the hat.
