One of the oldest merchant markets in Baden-Württemberg with an amusement park on the Ziegelwasen and a craft market in the city center
The Gallusmarkt in Kirchheim unter Teck is one of the oldest merchant markets in Baden-Württemberg. Its date follows the classic memorial day of Saint Gallus (October 16), traditionally set for the first Monday in November — thus November 2 in 2026. Over the centuries, the format has expanded: the pure craft market has evolved into a four-day autumn folk festival with an amusement park as the main attraction and the craft market as the historical core piece.
From Friday, October 30 to Monday, November 2, 2026, the amusement park on the Ziegelwasen — Kirchheim's central festival grounds — will be open. Expect:
Amusement park opening hours approximately: Friday from late afternoon, Saturday and Sunday from noon until late, Monday until evening.
The actual Gallusmarkt as a craft market takes place only on Mondays, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the city center. Here, about 100 to 150 market traders present a classic assortment that reflects centuries of tradition:
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, there will be Sunday opening hours in the city center — shops open in the afternoon (usually 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and complement the market offerings. The city center fills up, with visitors from the entire Esslingen district coming for the combination of the park, market, and shopping.
The 'Große Kreisstadt' (major district town) of Kirchheim unter Teck (AGS 08116, Esslingen district) has around 40,000 inhabitants and is located on the Albtrauf — the steep escarpment of the Swabian Jura — with a view of the striking Burg Teck high above. The townscape features a historic market square, the Kirchheim Castle (Renaissance), well-preserved half-timbered buildings, and the intact old town around St. Martin's Church. The Gallusmarkt optimally utilizes this backdrop — the craft market winds through the narrow city center streets.
The Gallusmarkt has a sister event: the Märzenmarkt in spring (around the feast day of Saint Mauritius). Both markets follow the same concept (amusement park + craft market) and represent Kirchheim's main annual market dates. The Gallusmarkt in autumn is traditionally the better attended — late autumn atmosphere, a hint of pre-Christmas anticipation.
The 2026 Gallusmarkt will run in its classic format: amusement park from Friday to Monday on the Ziegelwasen, traditional craft market only on Monday in the city center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additionally, Sunday opening hours for shops on November 1 starting from noon.
