Two days of rose market against the backdrop of the Dutch town — historic roses, care tips, and a summer evening with music
The Friedrichstadt Rose Dreams is one of Schleswig-Holstein's most beautiful garden festivals — a festival that combines the maritime beauty of the Dutch town with the elegance of historic rose cultivation. Friedrichstadt in the Nordfriesland district is a town with Dutch identity: founded in 1621 by religious refugees from Holland, characterized by canals, gabled houses, and unique architecture. When the rose stands are set up on Friedrichplatz, an atmosphere like that of a Flemish Renaissance market is created.
The event brings together five established rose breeders — including Rosenschule W. Kordes' Söhne from Sparrieshoop (Pinneberg), one of Germany's most renowned rose breeders, and Baumschule Koopmann. The stands offer:
Anyone looking for a special variety or having care questions about existing roses can speak directly with the breeders — a rare opportunity that is only possible in this concentration on a few days a year.
Accompanying this, a Garden Market offers decorations, ceramics, jewelry, and accessories with rose motifs. Particularly charming is the Rose Culinary Delights: rose cheese, rose punch, and rose cake — culinary specialties that are only gathered together so compactly in one place on these two days.
On Saturday evening from 6 PM, the festival moves to the Grüner Markt: live music under the trees, a summer evening with a relaxed atmosphere, wine and cheese, fairy lights between the branches. One of the most beautiful small open-air events that Schleswig-Holstein has to offer in June.
Friedrichstadt is a small town with just under 2,500 inhabitants in the Nordfriesland district of Schleswig-Holstein, located at the confluence of the Eider and Treene rivers. The town is a tourist gem: Dutch gabled houses, canals lined with linden trees, a historic market square with a Mennonite church, the entire inner city is a protected monument. The Rose Dreams make optimal use of this backdrop — few events in Schleswig-Holstein have such an atmospherically fitting setting.
The 2026 edition is confirmed on the official city website (friedrichstadt.de) and via nordseetourismus.de. As in previous years, the stands open on Saturday at 10 AM; a central element is the summer evening with music on Saturday evening, which evolves the atmosphere from a market to a festive evening.
The organizer is the Friedrichstadt Tourist Association, which has been realizing the rose weekend with the same partners (rose nurseries, stand operators, restaurateurs) for years.
