Six anniversary festivals of the volunteer fire brigades in the district of Dingolfing-Landau between May and September 2026
In the district of Dingolfing-Landau, the volunteer fire brigades are more than just emergency organizations—they are the backbone of village life. When a brigade celebrates its founding festival (often for its 100th, 125th, or 150th anniversary), the entire village becomes a festival ground: a marquee, beer tapping ceremony, parade with all surrounding brigades, a festive mass with banner consecration, and days of brass band music. In 2026, there are six such founding festivals on the calendar—spread between Pentecost and early autumn.
The dates are centrally coordinated by the District Fire Brigade Association Dingolfing-Landau e.V. and published on its website—a deliberate arrangement to allow neighboring brigades to participate as guest brigades without overlapping dates.
In the Dingolfing-Landau district, the format follows a well-established tradition: Thursday or Friday, beer tapping and opening with a stand concert; Saturday, a homeland evening with brass band music, traditional dance, or a party band; Sunday, a festive service in the marquee or parish church, followed by a grand parade with all neighboring brigades, traditional costume groups, music bands, and floats. The event usually concludes with a joint morning pint and a festival finale on late Sunday evening or Monday.
The district of Dingolfing-Landau is one of Bavaria's economically strongest regions (BMW plant Dingolfing) and at the same time one of its most culturally traditional—the Danube-Isar plain with its village churches and baroque pilgrimage churches shapes the landscape and festival scene. Over 100 volunteer fire brigades are organized in the district fire brigade association; every year, several of their brigades celebrate founding festivals, to which the entire district pays attention.
Beyond their importance within the fire brigade community, these festivals are pillars of village life: they collect donations for vehicles and equipment, they bring young and old together, and they keep the Lower Bavarian festival culture alive—from the stand concert and the banner godmother to the grand parade.
2026 is a festival year in the district of Dingolfing-Landau: Six volunteer fire brigades are celebrating their founding festivals with multi-day festival weekends. The district fire brigade association centrally coordinates the dates.
The festival season opens on the Pentecost weekend with the FF Prunn (municipality of Mengkofen) on May 30 and 31, 2026. This is followed by the FF Haberskirchen (municipality of Frontenhausen) with a four-day festival from June 4 to 7 — usually over the Corpus Christi weekend. In July 2026, three more brigades will join: the FF Mengkofen (July 3-6), the FF Frauenbiburg (municipality of Dingolfing, July 10-12), and the FF Dornwang (municipality of Mengkofen, July 24-26). The festival autumn is heralded by the FF Ganacker (municipality of Pilsting) from September 4 to 6.
The individual programs — parade, festive service, festival evening with brass band music, homeland evening — are published before each festival by the respective brigade and via the district fire brigade association.
The detailed programs of the individual brigades will be published through the official channels — website kfv-dgf-lan.feuerwehren.bayern as well as the websites of the individual fire brigades.
