Every two years, the Altforweiler fairground transforms into a festival mile: when the local interest group (OIG) and 25 clubs invite you to the Forweiler Dorffest, the village community of the competition village "Our Village Has a Future 2025" comes together. Live music on Saturday, fanfare brunch on Sunday, and the "Forweiler Dorfmarkt" complete the program.

The 16th Forweiler Dorffest is expected in 2026 as the next edition of the biennial event. Following the 15th edition (June 2024), a weekend in June 2026 is the likely date. Concept: Saturday with live music and keg tapping, Sunday with fanfare brunch and village market.

The Altforweiler Local Interest Group traditionally organizes the Forweiler Dorffest every two years – the last edition was the 15th Forweiler Dorffest on June 15/16, 2024. The 16th edition is therefore expected in 2026, likely on a weekend in June.

The exact date and detailed program will be announced, as is customary, about three months before the festival on altforweiler.de, the club's Facebook page, and in the official gazette of the municipality of Überherrn. The proven concept – Saturday live program with cover bands, Sunday with fanfare brunch and village market – is expected to be maintained.

Getting There

By car: Take the A620 from Saarbrücken towards Saarlouis, continue on the A8, take the Überherrn exit, then follow signs towards Altforweiler. Approximately 25 minutes from Saarbrücken, 15 minutes from Saarlouis, and only a few minutes from the French border near Creutzwald. Parking is available in designated areas around the Altforweiler fairground on Lilienstraße.

By Bus

saarVV bus lines from Saarlouis and Überherrn serve Altforweiler regularly; additional night buses are organized if needed during the festival weekend.

Free admission. Food and drinks are sold at prices typical for clubs – proceeds go directly to club activities and village development (including Kirwenplatz25).

A Biennial Major Event in the Saarland

The Forweiler Dorffest is one of the largest club festivals in the district of Saarlouis. It takes place every two years – the last edition was the 15th Forweiler Dorffest on June 15 and 16, 2024, and the next is expected in 2026 as the 16th edition. The organizer is the Altforweiler Local Interest Group (OIG), the umbrella organization that unites around 25 clubs from the district.

The "Gold Village" Commitment

Altforweiler successfully applied in 2025 for the national competition "Our Village Has a Future" – the entire village life, club engagement, and projects such as the renovation of the central festival grounds, Kirwenplatz25, or the Tour de Forweiler are part of this application. The village festival serves as the most visible showcase of Saarland's village culture, which the competition aims to promote.

What to Expect at the Forweiler Dorffest

The festival follows a classic Saarland rhythm. On Saturday afternoon, preparations begin with the clubs, around 4 PM the official program starts, and from 6 PM the keg tapping with fresh beer begins. The evening is filled with live bands from the region (in previous years, for example, "Crazy" with cover rock and Schlager music) until well after midnight. Sunday features the traditional fanfare brunch starting at 11 AM, followed by the Forweiler Dorfmarkt – a market variant that runs only on Sundays and presents regional handicrafts, artisanal products, honey, sausages, and cheese from the Saarland and the border region with Lorraine.

History of Altforweiler

Altforweiler is a district of the municipality of Überherrn in the Saarlouis district and is located directly on the French border. First documented in 1121, the place even has findings from Celtic and Roman times. Until the end of 1973, Altforweiler was an independent municipality, after which it was incorporated into Überherrn as part of the Saarland regional reform. Club life remained unaffected – the Orannakirmes and the village festival are still the central dates in the annual calendar.

Around the Corner: Forweiler Wies'n and Federweißerfest

In years when there is no village festival, the OIG organizes other events: the Forweiler Wies'n in a Bavarian style and the Federweißerfest (young wine festival) in early October.
