A Premiere at the Regatta Course
The HavelMan is Brandenburg's newest major sporting event on the Havel River. On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the triathlon will start for the first time — a competition in three distances, set against one of Germany's most spectacular watersports backdrops. The organizer is the club Havelsport Brandenburg e.V., chaired by Stefan Taube; the city of Brandenburg an der Havel has upgraded the event as a new flagship format for its already renowned regatta season.
Three Distances — From Child to Athlete
The concept of the HavelMan is consistently designed for maximum accessibility. Three distances are available:
- Kids / Beginners — 0.2 km swimming, 5 km cycling, 1 km running — for children and absolute beginners.
- Sprint ("Jedermann") — 0.75 km swimming, 20 km cycling, 5 km running — the classic entry into triathlon sport.
- Olympic Short Distance — 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling, 10 km running — the classic Olympic distance for experienced athletes.
A relay mode is also possible for the Sprint and Olympic distances: three team members share the three disciplines — a variant particularly popular with clubs, companies, and groups of friends.
Beetzsee Regatta Course — International Watersports Venue
The Beetzsee Regatta Course in Brandenburg an der Havel is one of Germany's most important watersports facilities. For decades, it has hosted rowing, canoe, and dragon boat championships at national and international levels. The straight lanes on the Beetzsee, the professional infrastructure on the banks (docks, timing systems, grandstands), and the calm, wind-sheltered location make the course an ideal competition venue. The HavelMan also benefits from this: the swimming takes place in crystal-clear Beetzsee water on a precisely measured course.
Expected Scale
For its inaugural edition, the organizer anticipates approximately 760 athletes across all distances and around 3,000 spectators on the banks. Registration is already sold out — a clear sign of the new format's acceptance within the triathlon scene of Northeast Germany.
Brandenburg an der Havel — City on the River
The independent city of Brandenburg an der Havel is one of Brandenburg's oldest cities (first documented mention in 928) and gives the entire federal state its name. With its three main churches, the Slavic settlement of Brandenburg, the Old Town, and the Cathedral Island, it is a major tourist attraction — and with its location between the Havel and Beetzsee rivers, one of Germany's most water-rich places. The new HavelMan Triathlon fits into this watersports tradition, complementing it with a modern sporting event.
