200 Stalls, Elbe River View, and Street Food at the Cruise Center
The Altona Balcony is one of Hamburg's most beautiful viewpoints—a small park high above the Elbe River, offering views of the harbor cranes, the Köhlbrandbrücke bridge, and the freighters. Directly below lies the Cruise Center Altona, a docking point for cruise ships. On days without ship arrivals, the spacious parking lot there transforms into an open-air flea market with a harbor backdrop.
Over 200 private and creative sellers line up in long rows. The spectrum is broad: vintage clothing, designer pieces, books and vinyl, furniture, jewelry, hi-fi equipment, toys, records, old tools. Stalls are set up on the event day itself—early birds get the widest selection of treasures, but the market's real buzz begins around 2 PM.
The street food offerings are international: specialty coffee, fresh juices, pizza, burgers, African and Caribbean cuisine, and occasionally Asian street food specialties. The stalls are located in a separate zone, making the festival more of an excursion destination than just a flea market. Families, couples, and students come for a relaxed Saturday afternoon with a waterfront breeze.
The Altona Balcony is located in the Altona-Altstadt neighborhood, within the Altona district. Directly nearby: Fish Market, Landungsbrücken, Sankt Pauli. Visitors to the flea market often combine it with a walk along the Elbe Cycle Route, a visit to the Fish Market (on Sundays), or a coffee break in Ottensen.
A classic Saturday afternoon by the harbor: Stalls open from 2 PM, the street food area runs in parallel. Those looking for vinyl, fashion, or design pieces should come early—the most exciting finds usually change hands in the first few hours.
The market uses the large parking lot below the Altona Balcony, which is not occupied by a docked cruise ship. It takes place regardless of weather—stalls are often covered with awnings. Payment is accepted in cash or via common digital wallets.
The Elbe panorama as a festival backdrop, international street food, and the sheer number of stalls make this market one of Hamburg's most exciting flea market experiences.
