Demitz-Thumitz, located in the Bautzen district, is affectionately known as the 'Granite Village'—a nickname rooted in the region's centuries-old history of granite quarrying and processing. Cobblestones, curbstones, and headstones made from Demitz granite can be found throughout Germany and across Europe. In 2024, the community celebrated 650 years since its first historical mention with a festival week held from September 7th to 15th, 2024.
