Chamber music in the newly renovated Hall of Mirrors and open-air concerts in the palace park — 2026 season at Barockschloss Rammenau
Barockschloss Rammenau, built between 1721 and 1737 for the Saxon Privy Councilor Ernst Ferdinand von Knoch and largely preserved in its original state since then, is considered one of the most beautiful rural Baroque palaces in Saxony. The palace is located in the Upper Lusatia region between Bischofswerda and Bautzen, nestled in a 14-hectare landscape park. The freshly renovated Hall of Mirrors, with its Baroque ceiling painting and restored mirrored walls, provides an acoustically and visually exceptional setting for the 2026 season's chamber concerts.
The program follows the concept of "Classical Music with a Salon Atmosphere." The individual concert afternoons and evenings combine works from different eras: Baroque (Händel), Viennese Classicism (Mozart, Beethoven), Italian and French opera (Verdi, Bellini, Toselli, Arban), Viennese operetta (J. Strauss, Stolz), Romanticism (Grieg, Robert and Clara Schumann), along with spoken contributions—such as excerpts from Schopenhauer's and Goethe's letters on May 10, 2026. Concerts often begin at 5:00 PM or 5:30 PM and are scheduled to allow day-trippers from Dresden or Bautzen to return home easily.
In the summer, the Dresden Residence Orchestra complements the season with two open-air concerts in the Palace Park. Viennese waltzes, operetta highlights, and Saxon folk music alternate—in a summer open-air atmosphere in front of the palace facade. Picnic blankets and folding chairs are welcome; the palace bistro offers food and drinks.
Barockschloss Rammenau is part of Schlösserland Sachsen—an association of about 50 palaces, castles, and gardens in the Free State. The concert series is one of the association's most traditional events. Visitors to the palace for the first time should plan a guided tour of the *beletage* with its original stucco ceilings, the festival hall, and the palace park before or after the concert—the Baroque garden with its sightlines, fountains, and old trees is a sight in itself.
Barockschloss Rammenau opens its concert season 2026 on March 1 and closes it on October 11. The venues are the freshly renovated Hall of Mirrors and the palace park. The season is part of the Schlösserland Sachsen program.
Confirmed dates so far in the Hall of Mirrors: March 1 (Händel, Mozart, Verdi, Bellini, Arban), April 12 (J. Strauss, Winkler, Stolz, Toselli, Amadei), May 10 (Schopenhauer, Goethe, C. Schumann), May 24 (Grieg et al.). In addition, two open-air concerts by the Dresden Residence Orchestra in the palace park during the summer.
