The neighbourhood festival on Hemmstraße – with three f's
Findorff is one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods in the Hanseatic city of Bremen: an urban quarter north of the main train station, characterised by Hemmstraße as the central shopping axis, owner-managed shops, cafés, and a strong sense of community. The Findorff Village Festival – the unusual spelling with three f's has long been a beloved trademark of the festival in the state of Bremen – bundles exactly this feeling.
On an August Sunday, Hemmstraße and Admiralstraße transform into a continuous festival mile between noon and evening. The festival traditionally opens with an official kickoff and musical accompaniment, and the stage programme is often hosted by well-known voices from Bremen's radio. Acrobatics, dance and salsa performances, Zumba, and accordion music follow one another on stage – a programme almost exclusively created by Findorff residents.
Around the stage, local restaurateurs provide culinary delights, from savoury to sweet. For children, there's a bouncy castle, face painting, hair braiding, archery or can shooting, and hands-on activities from the local scout group. A large family-friendly flea market stretches through the quarter, often accompanied by a raffle for local institutions.
What's special about the Village Festival is its down-to-earth nature: a neighbourhood celebrating itself, organised by Findorffer Geschäftsleute e.V. (Findorff Business Association), one of Bremen's oldest business associations firmly anchored in the quarter. It's not an over-commercialised major event, but a festival from neighbours for neighbours – and that's exactly what makes its charm. Nevertheless, the Village Festival is no longer an insider tip: previous editions are estimated to have attracted well over 15,000 people from all over Bremen and the surrounding area. The day is accompanied by a Sunday shopping event, during which Findorff shops open their doors.
Anyone who wants to experience Bremen beyond the tourist trails will find the Findorff Village Festival to be the right place. The festival shows the Hanseatic city from its neighbourly side – familiar, diverse, and supported by a great deal of volunteer commitment from the neighbourhood.
At the Findorff Village Festival on Sunday, August 30, 2026, Hemmstraße, Admiralstraße, and the area around the Jan-Reiners-Center will transform into a continuous festival mile from 12 PM to 10 PM. In addition, there will be a large family-friendly flea market throughout the quarter, a raffle for local institutions, and a family area with a bouncy castle, face painting, hair braiding, archery and can shooting, and hands-on activities from the local scout group. Local restaurateurs will provide culinary delights, from savoury to sweet. The day is accompanied by a Sunday shopping event in the neighbourhood with special promotions from local businesses.
