Club festival in Bremen's second-largest allotment garden association
With around 450 plots and 600 members, the Kleingärtnerverein Nürnberg e.V. is one of Bremen's largest allotment garden associations. Located in the Findorff district, right next to Salzburger Straße, the association cultivates a green lung that has been part of Findorff's vibrant cityscape for decades. The annual Sommerfest opens the grounds to neighbours, families, and interested individuals, offering a wonderful opportunity to get to know the world of Bremen's Schrebergärten (allotment gardens).
From 3 PM to 6 PM, members transform the club paths and clubhouse into a meeting point for the whole family: coffee and homemade cake, sausages, drinks, music, a tombola, and small activities for children have been part of the regular schedule for years. The club management is available to visitors for questions about renting a plot and life in the Findorff club. The children's ticket with several activity stations costs €6.50. It's a festival without a grand setting, but with a lot of neighbourly warmth — exactly what Bremen's allotment garden associations stand for.
Findorff belongs to the Bremen-West district and is one of the greenest districts in the Hanseatic city: nearly half of its area is occupied by allotment gardens, particularly in the In den Hufen and am Weidedamm areas, situated between dense residential buildings and the Blockland recreational area. Historically, the area was agricultural and for a long time accessible only via Hemmstraße and the peat canal, built in 1817, on which peat boatmen transported their cargo to the city. A distinct garden culture has grown from this tradition, shaping the neighbourhood to this day.
The Kleingärtnerverein Nürnberg is one of the traditional associations in the state of Bremen and represents an open, intergenerational garden culture. Those who wish to continue their evening can walk to the large Bürgerpark with its city forest and lake, or to the bustling Hemmstraße, one of Bremen's liveliest shopping streets outside the city centre — both are defining landmarks of Findorff.
The 2026 Sommerfest opens the gates of the club grounds on Saturday, August 22nd, from 3 PM to 6 PM. Members, neighbours, and guests gather for a relaxed late summer afternoon in the green heart of Findorff. The program includes coffee and cake, grilled sausages, cool drinks, a tombola, and a children's program with several activity stations. The club management answers questions about renting a plot and introduces club life.
